Our farm's location on the edge of the Rio Grande Bosque means we are perfectly situated to enjoy and explore our native ecosystem, teeming with biodiversity to explore. Each autumn, the woodlands attract countless migratory birds, making New Mexico an internationally beloved birdwatching destination.
Join Max Havelka, a local biologist with decades of experience studying the Rio Grande Bosque, for a nature walk exploring the Los Poblanos grounds. Designed to unveil the rich wildlife and plant life found across our 25 acres, Max will share the beauty and fragility of this unique ecosystem. You'll have the chance to view diverse wildlife, identify native plants and learn about the region's fascinating geology. The tour will conclude with light refreshments at the perfect sunset viewing spot. Standing among the Los Poblanos lavender fields, with a clear view of the Sandia Mountains, Max will ensure you arrive just as the sun is about to set and the mountains briefly glow pink and representing their name: Sandia means 'watermelon' in Spanish.
This walk will last approximately 1.5 hours and cover 1-2 miles of gravel paths and uneven ground. Please come prepared with comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate attire. Max will provide sanitized field guides and binoculars for guests to use during the tour.
